See the Amazon shelf as a shopper sees it

Your MixShift data tells you what happened in your account: sales, ads, inventory, your featured-offer status from the reports Amazon itself provides. It does not show you what a shopper in Dallas saw when they searched for your product this morning: where you ranked, who had the Buy Box, who else was on the listing. The Amazon Shelf skill does. Beta, on for every organization, included in the plugin.

Before you start

  • The MixShift plugin installed, updated to 0.8.19 or later, and signed in. See Install the plugin.
  • One ASIN and one keyword you care about. No brand setup is needed.

Start with the demo

Open Claude with the MixShift plugin and say:

"Demo Amazon shelf."

Claude walks six steps on your own ASIN and keyword, reads only, and ends each step with the sentence that runs it again. It takes about six minutes and uses about eight of your month's shelf requests (step 1 tells you how many you have).

The questions it answers

Say What you get
"Where do we rank for 'backpacking meals' in New York, desktop and mobile?" The search results page position by position: organic and sponsored, prices, ratings, review counts, "bought in past month", badges, coupons, stock warnings, and the sponsored-brand banners at the top. Mobile is the shorter page most shoppers see.
"Who has the Buy Box for B0055QS6AK in Dallas?" The featured offer at that zip: seller, price, Prime, stock, and the delivery promise as text and as days. Ask for several metros at once to see where you win and where you lose.
"List every seller on B0055QS6AK and their prices" The whole offer list as the shopper sees it: each seller's price, FBA or merchant-shipped, condition, and delivery promise. The seller ids are there for the next question.
"What does the product page for B07BDBDT21 show right now?" The listing as it renders: title, bullet points, product details, images, best-seller ranks, rating, the Buy Box block, and the "customers say" summary Amazon shows. This call is beta; a field can be missing on some listings and Claude says so.
"Who is seller A1EXAMPLESELLER?" The storefront behind a seller id: name, rating, and the business details Amazon shows.
"How many shelf requests do we have left?" Your organization's allowance for the month: used, remaining, and when it resets. Free.

"What can you do with shelf data?" lists all of this in the chat, with a plain explanation of each call. For what to do with each answer, see What you can do with shelf data.

Tracking keywords over time

Every answer is dated, and MixShift keeps every observation it takes, so asking the same keyword at the same zip again next week gives you a dated series. If you want a keyword list watched on a schedule, with the history kept and shown on a page, say so: "Track these keywords for me: backpacking meals, freeze dried meals, at New York and Dallas, daily." The skill sends that request to MixShift (through the plugin's feedback channel; emailing MixShift the same list works too). MixShift sets the tracking up for you; the daily observations count against your allowance like any other answer, and the price of keeping the history, if any, is decided before it is charged.

Locations

Every answer is taken as a shopper at one location, because rank, the Buy Box and the delivery promise can differ by zip. Locations come from a fixed list per country (about 300 US zips covering the metros; Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and India are covered too). Ask "which zips can shelf data observe from?" to see the list; a zip that is not on it is refused for free.

Freshness

Every answer carries the time the shelf looked like this. MixShift may answer from a recent observation (within hours for rank, the Buy Box and offers; a day for the product page). When the question needs the shelf as of right now, for example right after a price change, say so: "check the Buy Box for B0055QS6AK in Dallas right now." Same cost, fresh observation.

The allowance

Every answer counts one against your organization's monthly shelf allowance, whether or not MixShift had to observe the shelf for it. The first month carries a larger discovery allowance, later months a monthly one; unused requests do not roll over. Checking your allowance and the list of locations is free. When the month's allowance is used up, Claude tells you when it resets and offers to ask MixShift for more; say yes and the request goes to us with your organization and period, and we raise it for the current month.

Where the data comes from

Public shelf observations from a licensed third-party shelf-data provider, supplied through MixShift's service on MixShift's own key. Nothing here uses your Amazon credentials, and nothing of yours is sent: an ASIN, a keyword or a seller id is the only input. The shelf is joined to your own account data only when a workflow does the join, for example when you line up a lost featured offer from the report Amazon provides with what the shelf showed at that zip.

Using it outside the plugin

The same seven calls are available to your own code, to n8n or Make, and to ChatGPT, Cursor and Claude connectors through the Builder Platform; see Use shelf data from your own code or agent.

What it is not

  • Not your account's data. "Did my account lose the featured offer, and what share of views did that cost?" is an Amazon report question; ask the retail skill. The shelf tells you who won at a zip and why: price, promise, badge, stock.
  • Not sales estimates. "Bought in past month" is the label Amazon puts on the page, shown as is.
  • Not a change surface. The skill only reads; nothing on Amazon or in your account changes.
