Amazon DSP Minimum Spend: What the $50,000 Number Applies To

Amazon DSP has no single minimum. The $50,000 figure applies to the managed-service option. Here is what each access route requires before your first impression, and what you pay on top of media.

"What is the minimum spend for Amazon DSP?" gets three different answers depending on who you ask. Some say $50,000. Some quote a lower partner minimum. Some say there is no minimum at all. All three can be true, because the minimum depends on how you get onto a DSP seat, not on DSP itself.

This post walks through the access routes, what each one requires before your first impression, and the fees that sit on top of media. Where Amazon publishes a number, we link it. Where it does not, we say so.

The short answer

  • Managed service with Amazon: Amazon says the managed-service option for display, video and audio "typically" requires a minimum spend of $50,000 (US). Audio ads typically require $25,000 (US). Both are on the Amazon Ads FAQ.
  • Self-service in your own account: Amazon describes self-service Display, Video and Audio campaigns as having "budgets you set". It does not publish a self-service minimum, and it points new display, video and audio advertisers to an account executive to get started.
  • Through an agency or managed-service partner: the partner sets the minimum. Published figures vary widely, and most pair the minimum with a percentage of spend.
  • Advertiser access on an existing seat: some providers create an advertiser for you on their seat and charge a flat fee. MixShift Amazon DSP access is $500 per month per advertiser with no minimum spend.

The rest of this post explains why the answers differ.

Why there is no single DSP minimum

Two things changed how people talk about DSP minimums.

First, Amazon is folding Amazon DSP into Amazon Ads Agent. The programmatic controls DSP buyers know (audience targeting, frequency management, deal IDs, custom bidding) now live in what Amazon calls DVA+ with advanced settings. Amazon says existing pricing, "including self-service and managed-service options", carries forward. So the minimum question did not go away. It moved.

Second, "self-service" means different things. A self-service Display campaign with simplified settings and a self-service programmatic buyer with full advanced settings are not the same experience, even if both are "self-service". When someone says DSP has no minimum, ask which one they mean.

The practical result: the minimum you face is set by the route you take onto a seat. Amazon sets it for managed service. A partner sets it when you buy through one. When you have your own seat or advertiser, there is no spend floor, only the fees covered below.

Minimums by access route

Amazon managed service

Amazon runs the campaigns. You agree a budget with an account executive. Amazon publishes the "typically $50,000 (US)" figure for display, video and DVA+ with advanced settings, and notes it varies by country. On top of media, Amazon lists a managed services fee as a percent of media cost, invoiced separately, in its pricing transparency guide.

This route fits brands that want Amazon to plan and run the work and can commit the budget.

Self-service in your own Amazon Ads account

You run the campaigns yourself. Amazon does not publish a spend floor for self-service. The Amazon Ads FAQ also points anyone "interested in display, video, and audio ads" to an account executive to get started, so plan on a conversation with Amazon before launch.

If you already have programmatic history and a contact at Amazon Ads, this is the most direct route.

Through an agency or managed-service partner

The agency buys on its seat and runs the campaigns. Minimums are set by the agency, and most charge a management fee as a percentage of media spend. That percentage is the number to look at, because it grows with every dollar you add.

This route fits brands that want the campaigns run for them and value the agency's planning and creative work.

Advertiser access on an existing seat

A provider with a DSP seat creates an advertiser for you, invites your team, and you run campaigns directly. There is no spend floor because nobody is managing a budget on your behalf. You pay an access fee, and media is billed by Amazon.

On the MixShift seat that fee is $500 per month per advertiser, flat, month to month, with no minimum spend and no percentage of spend. Agencies that need several advertisers can contact us for bulk pricing.

The fee is not only the seat. Each advertiser also gets an Amazon Marketing Cloud (AMC) instance with its DSP and sponsored ads advertiser IDs attached, and AMC Workspaces, the MixShift AMC app that runs ready-made AMC reports without SQL and builds audiences for DSP. AMC Workspaces is free while in beta and will be priced separately at launch. The default AMC instance Amazon provides for sponsored ads has no DSP connection, no cross-walk between advertiser IDs, no SQL and no API, so it cannot show what DSP did. When you compare access routes, count measurement too: a low minimum is worth less if you cannot see what DSP added. AMC Workspaces for DSP advertisers covers what the app does.

What you pay on top of media

Whatever the route, the minimum is only part of the cost. Amazon DSP uses a cost-plus-fees model. The main pieces Amazon lists:

Fee How it is charged Billed by
Technology fee (also called platform or console fee) Percent of media cost, set at the entity level, disclosed at campaign setup Amazon
Amazon Ads audiences Published CPM, highest segment only when combined Amazon
Third-party audiences and pre-bid targeting Published CPM Amazon
Managed services fee Percent of media cost, only if Amazon runs the campaigns Amazon
Agency or access fee Set by the partner: a percentage, a flat fee, or both The partner

Two questions make the comparison honest:

  1. What is the technology fee on the seat you will buy from? It is set per entity, so two seats can carry different rates. The MixShift seat carries a grandfathered 7.5% platform fee. That fee goes to Amazon, not to us.
  2. Does the partner fee scale with spend? A percentage fee is fine at low spend and expensive at high spend. A flat fee is the reverse. Work out the crossover for your planned budget, or use the spend calculator on our DSP page.

How to choose

Start from what you need, not from the minimum.

  • You want someone to plan and run DSP for you. Choose Amazon managed service or an agency. The minimum and the percentage fee pay for that work.
  • You have someone who can run DSP, and you want the controls. Choose self-service in your own account if you can get advanced settings, or advertiser access on an existing seat if you want to start this week.
  • You are an agency running DSP for clients. Look at the per-advertiser cost, who owns the advertiser and its data, and what happens if you leave. We cover that in self-serve Amazon DSP access routes.
  • You are not sure DSP is the next dollar. Compare it with Sponsored Display first. Sponsored Display has no minimum and may cover what you need.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Amazon DSP minimum spend in 2026?

There is no single minimum. Amazon says its managed-service option typically requires $50,000 (US). Self-service budgets are set by the advertiser. Agencies and partners set their own minimums. Advertiser access on an existing seat, such as MixShift, has no minimum spend.

Did Amazon remove the DSP minimum?

Amazon now describes Display, Video and Audio as available "self-service with budgets you set, or through managed service which typically requires a minimum spend". The managed-service minimum remains. Pricing carried forward when DSP moved into Amazon Ads Agent.

Is DVA+ the same as Amazon DSP?

DVA+ is the buying experience in Amazon Ads Agent for Display, Video and Audio. Amazon says the programmatic capabilities of Amazon DSP live in DVA+ with advanced settings, and existing campaigns, audiences and reporting carried over.

Can a small brand run Amazon DSP?

Yes. The constraint is usually access and know-how, not a spend floor. With advertiser access on an existing seat you can start with whatever budget you choose. Start with a focused goal, such as retargeting product page viewers or reaching lapsed buyers, so a small budget is not spread across too many tactics.

What comes with the MixShift DSP access fee?

An advertiser on the MixShift seat, an AMC instance for that advertiser, and AMC Workspaces, the AMC app with ready-made reports and an audience builder. The app is free while in beta. Campaign management is not included.

Does MixShift charge a percentage of DSP spend?

No. MixShift charges $500 per month per advertiser. Media, the platform fee and any audience fees are billed by Amazon directly. There is no minimum spend and no annual contract.
