# What you can do with shelf data

Shelf data is the Amazon page as a shopper at a given location sees it: where products rank for a keyword, who holds the Buy Box there, what every seller on the listing is asking, and what the product page shows today. Your account's own reports say what happened to you; the shelf says what the shopper saw, and why. Here are seven jobs it does, starting with the one no account report can answer. For the mechanics (locations, freshness, the allowance), see [See the Amazon shelf as a shopper sees it](/knowledge-base/plugin/how-to/see-the-shelf-as-a-shopper).

## 1. See where you rank for a keyword, as a shopper does

**Say:** "Where do we rank for 'backpacking meals' in New York, desktop and mobile?"

**You get:** the results page position by position: your ASINs' positions, which positions are sponsored and which are organic, prices, ratings, review counts, "bought in past month", badges (Amazon's Choice, Best Seller, Overall Pick), coupons and stock warnings; the sponsored-brand banners at the top with their brand and headline; and the related keywords Amazon shows.

**Then:** this is the half of the picture your account data cannot give you. Amazon reports tell you how a keyword converted for you; the shelf tells you what the shopper saw around you. Read it three ways:

- **By position.** Organic rank is where the listing earns its place; a sponsored position above it is what you are paying for. If your only page-one presence is sponsored, the ad is carrying the keyword.
- **By device.** The mobile page is shorter (15 positions instead of 60), so a rank that looks fine on desktop can be below the fold on a phone, where most shoppers are. Ask for both.
- **By location.** Rank differs by zip, because delivery promises and stock differ by zip. Pick three or four metros that matter and stay with them.

Related keywords are harvest candidates for your search-term work; page 2 is one more request when you need it.

## 2. Track keyword rank over time

**Say:** "Where did we rank for 'backpacking meals' in New York this week?" and, once you have a list, "Track these keywords for me: backpacking meals, freeze dried meals, camping food, at New York and Dallas, daily."

**You get:** today, each answer is dated and MixShift keeps every observation it takes, so repeating the same keyword at the same zip gives you a dated series you can compare week over week. Scheduled tracking of a keyword list, with the history on a page and feeding your daily health check and monthly report, is the next thing being built on this data.

**Then:** to be first on it, tell Claude to track the list. The skill sends the request to MixShift with your keywords, locations and cadence (it goes through the plugin's feedback channel, or email MixShift the same list). MixShift sets it up for you and tells you what the history will cost once that is priced; for now the daily observations count against your monthly allowance like any other answer.

## 3. Find out where you lose the Buy Box, and why

**Say:** "Who has the Buy Box for B0055QS6AK in New York, Chicago, Dallas and Los Angeles?"

**You get:** one row per metro: the seller who holds it, the price, Prime, stock, and the fastest delivery promise in days.

**Then:** compare the promise. A loss at the same price is almost always a delivery loss: the other seller promises tomorrow to that zip and you promise Thursday. That is an FBA placement or inventory conversation, not a price cut. A loss at a lower price is a price conversation, and the offer list (job 4) tells you who.

## 4. Watch your listing for undercuts and unauthorized sellers

**Say:** "List every seller on B0055QS6AK and their prices."

**You get:** the featured offer and the whole "other sellers" list: each seller's price, FBA or merchant-shipped, condition, delivery promise, and seller id.

**Then:** anything priced below your floor is a MAP question; a name you do not recognize is a reseller question. Ask "who is seller A2EXAMPLESELLA?" and the storefront's business name and address come back (job 7). Run it weekly on your hero ASINs and keep the output; the dates on each answer make the before and after.

## 5. Check what your product page shows today

**Say:** "What does the product page for B07BDBDT21 show right now?"

**You get:** title, bullet points, the details table, image count, best-seller ranks by category, rating and review count, "bought in past month", the Buy Box block, and the "customers say" summary Amazon shows.

**Then:** compare it with what you uploaded. A missing image, a bullet that reverted, or a competitor's page that carries a badge yours does not is a listing task. This call is beta: a field can be missing on some listings, and Claude says so rather than guessing.

## 6. Explain a lost featured offer with one more question

The pricing report from Amazon tells you that your account lost the featured offer for an ASIN and which segment of shoppers saw that. It does not say why. The shelf does.

**Say:** "Who has the Buy Box for B0055QS6AK at 10001 right now?" after the report names a loss there.

**You get:** the shelf as of now, dated, next to the report's dated answer: the winner, their price, their promise.

**Then:** act on the cause. If they are faster, fix delivery; if they are cheaper, decide on price or on the reseller; if the page shows no featured offer at all, the listing is suppressed and the case is with Amazon.

## 7. Know who a reseller is

**Say:** "Who is seller A2EXAMPLESELLA?"

**You get:** the storefront name, rating and count, the storefront text, and the business name and address Amazon shows for the seller where it shows them.

**Then:** a business you do not have a relationship with, selling your product below your floor, is the unauthorized-reseller case with its evidence attached. Offers sold by Amazon itself at retail have no seller id and no storefront to look up.

## Good habits

- Start with "demo Amazon shelf": six steps on your own ASIN and keyword, about eight requests.
- Pick a handful of locations that matter and stay with them, so answers compare across weeks.
- Every answer is dated. Say "right now" when the question needs the shelf as of now (after a price change, "is it back"); otherwise a recent observation is fine and costs the same.
- Every answer counts one against your organization's monthly allowance; ask "how many shelf requests do we have left?" (free). When you run out, Claude offers to ask MixShift for more.
